It’s been nine years since Ghana, the only African team remaining in last 8, was defeated 4-2 on penalties by Uruguay during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Uruguay beat Ghana 4-2 in a penalty shootout to reach World Cup semifinals.
Sebastian Abreu from the Uruguayan side, scored a penalty for his team to proceed to meet the Netherlands.
Ghana's Asamoah Gyan missed the goal post as the ball hit the crossbar with a penalty in the last minute of extra time.
Gyan's spot-kick hit the crossbar causing Black Stars to lose the chance to qualify for the semi-finals
The Black stars were left to rue a missed penalty in the last minute of extra time that Friday night which denied them the honour of becoming the first African team to reach the semifinals.
Asamoah Gyan's spot-kick hit the crossbar to the amazement of Ghana and their supporters in Johannesburg's Soccer City.

In the shootout, Sebastian Abreu coolly chipped Richard Kingson in the Ghana goal for the clinching goal in the penalties to give his side an irrefutable 4-2 lead.
Uruguayan goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera saved weak shots by John Mensah and Adiyiah causing Ghana to be on the back foot.
The loss was an emotional one as Ghana was the first African team to reach that stage of the competition in a long time.
Years on, Ghanaians remember that game with lots of pain while some people argue that the national team is under a spell to miss penalites at major competitions.
However, Asamoah Gyan revealed he is still haunted by his famous penalty miss.
