KITEKO Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Ecom Ghana has been adjudged the Best Hauler of the Year at the maiden Ghana Cocoa Awards (GCA) held at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra on Friday, November 22.
The latest feat comes on the back of the outstanding performance by the company at the 18th edition of the Ghana Club 100 awards when Ecom picked three awards. The company’s subsidiary, Agro-Ecom Ghana Limited, was ranked the 10th Best Company in Ghana as well as the best new entrant into Ghana Club 100 while KITEKO Ghana Limited was adjudged the 26th best company in Ghana.
The Cocoa Awards, the first of its kind, recognised stakeholders in the cocoa industry value chain. Various companies involved in the hauling, processing, promotion and manufacturing of cocoa products among other initiatives, were recognised on the night with plaques resembling a cocoa pod.
The sector does not only offers direct and indirect employment to millions of Ghanaians, but it is also a key player in the education sector with the Cocobod Scholarships that have seen many young Ghanaians through secondary school.
The GCA is recognition of heroes of the cocoa industry and an expression of intent to promote patronage of made in Ghana cocoa products. Ecom Ghana has a specific focus on developing and fostering sustainable supply chains in over 40 agricultural markets worldwide and the responsibility to provide real value and growth right through the supply chain to the farmers.
The company operates five subsidiaries namely Agro Ecom Ghana Limited; Crop Doctor Ghana Limited; KITEKO Ghana Limited; Sustainable Management Services and UNICOM Commodities Ghana Ltd.
Some 6000 people work directly and indirectly with Ecom Ghana. Over 150,000 farmers are presently benefiting from the company’s entrepreneurship initiatives geared towards helping build rural prosperity.
Ecom Ghana provides advisory services, training and support to farmers on productivity, quality, certification, crop diversification, environmental and other broader social issues.
The company is a long-term trade partner to the Ghana Cocoa Board. Its subsidiaries, Agro-Ecom Ghana Limited and Unicom Commodities Ghana Ltd. in partnership with COCOBOD, operate the largest sustainability program in Ghana to provide traceable and sustainable cocoa from Ghanaian farmers to chocolate manufacturers in Europe and USA.
