Public sector workers are likely to get a pay rise in March. Government has also committed to paying 2013 salary arrears within the next two months.
Leadership of organized labour on Wednesday met with the Joint Negotiation Committee of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to demand an immediate pay rise due to what they say is the growing hardship being experienced by Ghanaian workers.
This comes after government indicated it needed to implement a white paper on realigning the payment plan under the Single Spine Pay policy.
Deputy General Secretary for the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Justice Yankson told Joy News that: "Looking at the economic condition we find ourselves in, we need that kind of salary adjustment".
Dr. Yankson described as "fruitful", today's meeting which was attending by the Finance Minister Seth Terkper as well as the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Nii Armah Ashittey.
Dr. Yankson said that a proposal on the minimum wage is being worked on which will be followed by negotiations on the base pay.
"We've also agreed that between now and the end of April, all arrears would be cleared," he disclosed on Joy FM’s Newsnight.
