A circuit court at Tepa in Ashanti, on Thursday sentenced two persons to 24 months imprisonment each for stealing a quantity of plantain from three different farms.Rashid Cobbie, 24, a farmer and Sulley Yakubu 24, driver's mate, all pleaded guilty to the charge.
James Osae, a 28-year-old farmer, an accomplice, was also jailed for three months for dishonestly receiving.Chief Inspector Prosper Yao Aheto, told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the three people were staying at Mfanibu near Manfo in the Ahafo-Ano North District.Prosecution said on December 25, 2007, Cobbie and Yakubu stole the food stuff from the farm of Kwabena Oduro, Kwabena Owusu and Kofi Ansah and sold the food stuff to Osae at GH¢12.00 at Mfanibu.Chief Inspector Aheto said a fight ensued between Rashid and Sulley when they were sharing the money at a drinking spot and Rashid informed the Chief of Mfanibu about the theft.He said the chief reported the case to the Unit Committee of the town and the police was informed about it.Source: GNA
