President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Friday, December 13, 2019, meet the press to account for his stewardship after three years in office.
The press encounter will be the third since his assumption of power as the 5th President of the Fourth Republic.
The President is expected to speak about the performance of his government in areas of the economy, governance, health, education, security among others, and what he is doing to turn around the fortunes of the country.
The meeting will also afford journalists the opportunity to ask the President key questions which he hasn’t sufficiently addressed at various forums and also know about his plans on the economy and the lives of many Ghanaians.
The meeting comes amidst an appraisal by think tank, IMANI Africa, which scored the government poor marks on its 2016 manifesto achievements.
Meanwhile, some public sector employees are on also strike or have threatened to go on strike over unpaid allowances. The last media encounter by the President in December 2018 was described by the Media Foundation for West Africa as the worst ever because out of the about 70 invited journalists, only 15 were allowed to ask questions. The Foundation expressed concern that the President took a chunk of the time to deliver a speech which it described as “a rehearsal for his State of the Nation Address.” Journalists who have participated in the event have also not been spared criticism for their poor quality of questions. Professor Ransford Gyampo in January last year said most of the questions asked were not good enough to pin the president. In his view, the questions were “shallow and were not properly researched” making it easier for the President to deal with them.Latest Stories
