South Dayi Member of Parliament, Rockson Dafeamekpor, has lambasted the government over the performance of the Special Prosecutor.
Contributing to budget estimates of the Office of Special Prosecutor, Mr. Dafeamekpor said the governing board of the office “is not functioning properly to operationalise the work of the Special Prosecutor.”
“For instance, there is no tender committee therefore he is unable to make purchases,” said Dafeamekpor.
This, he explained, has adversely affected the performance of the office.
He added a lack of space to accommodate the staff of the office has also limited the number of employees.
“He has only three investigators that he is working with,” the MP stressed adding, that is to blame for Martin Amidu working on only two cases since his appointment as Special Prosecutor almost two years ago.
Speaking to JoyNews’ Kwesi Parker-Wilson outside the chamber, the MP added that other government officials are also stymieing Amidu.
He said the said officials are not cooperating with the Special Prosecutor.
Aggregating the problems, he said, “it is as if the Special Prosecutor was set up to fail.”
Martin Amidu himself has complained on several occasions about his office not being well resourced to function.
Dafeamekpor called on the government to ensure Mr. Amidu and his office have all they need to function properly in 2020.
