Acute water shortage has hit western part of Accra as residents of Kokomlemle, Ring road, Agbobloshie, Asylum Down and Odorkor, all suburbs in the capital, fight near a well, for water to fill their buckets.
JOY NEWS checks reveal that since last week, most residents in Western Accra have had no water flowing through their taps.
The unannounced shortage has caused many to walk long distances in search of the essential commodity with others resorting to the use of sachet water for domestic and commercial use.
Residents of New Kwashieman struggle to get water
But the Ghana Water Company has explained the shortage is due to a burst pipe that transmits water from the Weija Treatment Plant to Accra.
Communications Manager at the Ghana Water Company limited, Yaw Barima Barnie tells Joy News, Wednesday, that the Weija Treatment plant has been shut down as a result and engineers have been working on the burst pipeline since Sunday.

He has therefore assured affected residents that they would have water flowing through their taps by close of day, today.
"Unfortunately, our main transmission pipe-line that brings water from Weija to Accra experienced a burst. Currently the Weija treatment plant has been shut down and our men are on site working [around the clock to repair the damaged on the pipe line].

Residents of Mallam
"We are hoping that by the close of work today [the technicians would have completed work on the damaged pipeline and consumers will have water flowing through their taps by midnight]", he noted.
