The Motor Insurance Database (MID) which was introduced by the National Insurance Commission in January 2020 to help eliminate the phenomenon of fake insurance in the system, has crossed the 100,000 mark just in seven weeks.
This was disclosed on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, by the Head of Supervision of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Seth Eshun, during the training of trainers’ seminar for personnel of the Police Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) at Koforidua, the Eastern Region’s capital.
Seth Eshun
Participants in the seminar who were drawn from the Eastern and Volta Regions were taken through an overview of the database and how it is to be enforced by the Police.
According to the Supervisor “as of the evening of Monday, February 24, 2020, the database had recorded the insurance of over 101,000 vehicles.
He expressed delight in the fact that this development is an indication that the general public and the insurance industry have come to understand the benefits of digitising the insurance sector to rid the system of fraudsters.
The NIC is on a nationwide training of trainers programme and the exercise is expected to be replicated in all the remaining Regions for purposes of enforcement by the Police MTTD.
