President John Mahama has assured Ghanaians of better days ahead in spite of the current socio-economic challenges facing the country.
According to him, pragmatic measures being taken by government will soon yield fruitful results.
“I wish to assure the good citizens of Ghana that as tot the taste of any bitter medicine, this turbulence we are going through is temporary”.
President Mahama said this while delivering his second State of the Nation Address to Parliament Tuesday.
He noted that government must not entirely be blamed for the present circumstance because “we have all at some point had to bear the tastes of bitter medicine in order to restore our bodies to good health”.
President Mahama also noted that the vision of his government is to bridge the growing inequality gap between the rich and the poor in order to promote stability and economic development.
“We must share the fruit of our growth equitably in order that we leave no one behind. This is the only way we can guarantee that all our citizens are committed and have a stake in the survival and advancement of our nation".
On the economy, he said the economic fundamental remains bright citing the seven percent growth rate as evidence.
President Mahama was optimistic of a robust economy adding that though the debt to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio is high, it is necessary for an emerging economy like Ghana.
“I assure you we shall begin to see the benefits of the sacrifices we are making very soon,” he assured.
