Rampant killings and maiming of citizens of Kwahu South District by Fulani herdsmen continues to pose security problems for the district.The District Chief Executive, Nana Onwona Asante who disclosed this said that not too long ago, four people were shot at Ohenmaa without any provocation.
He was speaking at a special assembly meeting to approve this year’s budget.Touching on revenue, he said the district hoped to mobilize GH¢475,644 as revenue from its traditional source to finance its 2008 budget.The money, Nana Asante said will be raised through rates, tolls, dividends and treasury bills to supplement its share of the common fund.According to him, the assembly last year mobilised a total of GH¢264,833 for its budget.
He advised members of the assembly to assist revenue staff to collect the needed tolls and rates from their electoral areas to enable the Assembly achieve its revenue target.
Nana Asante said the Assembly had earmarked GH¢30,000 for the new Kwahu East District Assembly as seed capital in addition to vehicles, office equipment and other logistics for its activities.
He expressed worry at the rampant bush fires in some of the communities, saying had caused extensive damage to property and vegetation.He added that a paragliding site on the Odweanoma Mountain was nearly burnt but for the timely intervention of officers of the Ghana National Fire Service.
The DCE appealed to assembly members to educate the people against setting fires in their farms.Source: GNA
