Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Sophia Ackuaku, is championing a crusade against perception among some youth that blood money could be an end to their frustrations and predicaments.
According to her, the youth must be made to understand that prosperity comes after hard work.
Blood money which is now popular among the youth, nicknamed sakawa, has gained root across the length and breadth of Ghana.
Speaking on Okay FM, Hon. Ackuaku called on religious bodies to pump more energy into preaching about salvation instead of fueling the talks about riches on earth.
“Our religious bodies need to educate the youth that to be successful and prosperous, it takes hard work, strategies, analysis, focus and perseverance. Most of our churches have stopped preaching about salvation and this is worrisome.
“It has even gotten to an extent that students are being asked to bring their pens to churches before they write an examination. It will surprise you to know that most of these children desert their books and put their faith in what the pastor has said. But unfortunately, things don’t work that way”, she stated.
As a person who has worked her way to the top through hard work, she posited that God has given to each one a physical role to play on earth, but without playing our part in life, we shouldn’t expect to be rich overnight.
Touching on the issue of the alleged missing baby that has rocked the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, she did not rule out the possibility of some selfish individuals who might have thought of making money from someone’s vulnerability.
Hon. Ackuaku called on all Ghanaians to assist the police’s investigations into the scandal in order to apprehend persons involved the unfortunate incident.
She however pleaded with health officials working at the hospital not harbour any hatred in their hearts in the discharge of their duties even in the midst of life threatening attacks they have received.
Nonetheless, she also appealed to the security agencies to ensure that doctors and other health workers at the facility are given full protection.
On the declining national currency, cedi, Madam Sophia Ackuaku proffered that local farmers are supported to produce more in order to cut down on the country’s overreliance on imports.
Hon. Ackuaku made a clarion call to Ghanaians to support the nation and its leadership with prayers if we want them to succeed.
