Chiefs in Tamale are demanding an immediate apology from the Northern Regional Security Council after the Paramount chief of Tamale and his entourage were denied access to the Jubilee Park where an Independence Day Parade was being held.
Security officials would not allow Gulkpe-naa Alhassan Abdulai and his delegation through the main entrance because they were late.
The action of the security personnel angered the traditional entourage who boycotted the celebrations.
Spokesperson of the Paramount Chief of Tamale, Alhaji Lateef Saha-Naa explained the development to Joy News.
According to him, "On arrival at the Jubilee Park, just at the entrance, we were met with heavily fortified security personnel they said we were late so they will not allow us inside [with our cars]"
He added that, even when they had agreed to walk to the dais, they were advised to use an alternative route to the venue, a demand the chiefs were not ready to accept. They then left the venue of the celebration.
The Northern Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Council, Bede Ziedeng has said the action by the security was to ensure that the programme was not interrupted.
He explained that, chiefs who came to the venue earlier adhered to the directives of the security personnel to use alternative means except the Gulkpe-naa who didn't want to comply with the directive.
"People were given timelines to honour and so if there is a programme and then you come in late, you [are the one to]apologise not the person who arrived early" he said.
