The Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, has sued two assembly members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for defamation.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu is also claiming damages to the tune of Gh¢300,000.
The two; Philip Addae, Assembly member for Kokoso electoral area and Assembly member for Anomangye, Maxwell Ofosu Boachie, have been sued for accusing the Mayor of selling a tract of land opposite KMA to a Korean firm and a precast parcel of land as well.
They also stand to substantiate in court, statements they are alleged to have made on a local radio station in February this year that the Mayor is aware of a Gh¢200 bribe each collected from 286 market women, in his name.
The two in a press release on Friday, alleged that the Mayor has not been accounting for proceeds from the assembly’s management of the Kejetia Terminal since the latter assumed management of the terminal.
They also claim he has joint interest in the Adehyeman Gardens saga without recourse to the assembly.
The KMA Boss has denied these allegations and has filed the suit claiming damages and an injunction, restraining the defendants from writing or publishing further materials on the issue.
