The family of the woman whose baby went missing at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH)  is threatening to sue the hospital for negligence.

Spokesperson of the family Mohammed Abdul Rahman told Joy News the hospital must produce the baby dead or alive or be ready to meet them in court.

The whole country was seized with grief and anger early last month with a story of a woman, Suwaiba Abdul Munin, who could not find her baby after birth.

Hospital authorities informed her the baby was born dead, a fact she has neither confirmed nor denied, but has been persistent in demanding for the baby to be produced, dead or alive.

The hospital has been unable to produce the baby and has blamed an orderly- Baba Abure- who it accused of taking charge of the baby and four others deemed to have died after birth.

Angered by the incident, the family members of Suwaiba were said to have besieged the hospital to assault some doctors and nurses at the hospital, an incident which led to a declaration of a one week strike by doctors and nurses at the hospital.

The Ministry of health conducted an investigation into the incident and implicated the orderly and two health workers on duty at the time of the incident.

The Minister, Sherry Aryittey recommended that the two health workers implicated must be sanctioned but the officials at KATH and the Ghana Medical Association were incensed by the directive of the ministry. KATH instituted an internal investigation to unravel the mystery behind the missing babies.

The minister also gave a 14-day ultimatum for the hospital to produce the whereabouts of the missing five babies.

On Friday, the 14 day ultimatum has elapsed with no sign of the hospital producing the baby.

Luv FM's Kwabena Ampratwum reported that the hospital is scheduled to present the findings of its investigation to the ministry by close of day, Friday, but snippets of information he picked up indicates the report will be silent on the whereabouts of the missing babies.

The family of Suwaiba insist their patience has run out and they will be heading to the law courts to seek justice.

It is not clear yet what action the ministry will take after it receives the report from KATH.
