Friends of Rivers and Water Bodies are threatening to take legal action against District Assemblies and government agencies charged with the responsibility of ensuring the protection of water bodies in the country.
President of the NGO, Nana Dwomoh Sarpong said the continuous destruction of rivers and streams in the country makes mockery of the by-laws enacted by the assemblies to deal with the challenge.
He is warning that Ghana could face serious crisis in water delivery in the country next year, if immediate measures are not instituted to arrest the situation.
Nana Dwomoh Sarpong told Joy News it is about time persons appointed to responsible positions are made accountable to the people.
"The law which established the Local Government Ministry says that you cannot destroy water bodies but look at the assemblies, they are doing nothing about this act," he said.
President of the NGO faulted the Local Government ministry and its agencies, including the Town Planning, saying "they are not managing our land that is why we are getting shortage of water."
"Legal action should be taken against the assemblies and the people who do that," because they are being paid with tax payer's money "but they don't deliver," Nana Dwomoh Sarpong stressed.
