The Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL) has inaugurated a three-unit classroom block with an office and a store at Bamiankor in the Gwira traditional area in the Western Region.
The new school blocks would be used as Senior High School infrastructure for the Gwira Traditional Area. The project cost GH₵ 137,580.63.
This is said to be the first Senior High School (S.H.S) in the area, a move government has decided to complement as it plans to choose the same compound for the construction of a Senior High School for the community as part of the 200 S.H.S promised by the president.
As has been the pattern with GREL, the Senior High School has brought the total number of schools built by the company to 15 for the communities in its operational area.
The Omanhene of the Gwira traditional area, Awulae Angama Tu Agyan II, the Queen Mother, their sub-chiefs, school pupils and the whole community could not hide their joy when the keys to the edifice were handed over to them on behalf of the Company by the Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. J.C Garbrah.
The Corporate Affairs Manager in a brief address indicated to the community that, empowering current and future generations through education is one of the pillars on which GREL formulated its Corporate Social Responsibility policy.
For this reason, he said, GREL does not relent in its efforts to ensure that every child in its operational area has the best of education.
Mr. Garbrah mentioned scholarships, annual long vacation classes and allowances to teachers in three of its basic schools as some of the steps by the Company to stimulate education amidst provision of other social amenities in its operational areas.
The Chairman of the Association of Chiefs on whose Lands GREL operates (ACLANGO), Awulae Agyefi Kwame II, lauded GREL for its social responsibility consciousness and expressed the gratitude of the association for the concern the Company has shown to the communities in its operational area.
