School children in the Badimsugru, Northern region have been forced to abandon classes after a 42-year-old man was killed and his body badly mutilated by gunmen.

This comes after a 42-year-old man was killed and his body mutilated by gunmen on his farm on Wednesday.

The deceased, Sagark Danaaba, and his wife were working on their farming when gunmen opened fire on them.

His wife escaped unhurt but he died instantly.

The gunmen then chopped off one of his hands and his genitals, and split his head in a rage.

Police in the Northern Region have confirmed the incident to JOY NEWS and said the have begun investigateons into the incident.

Wife of the deceased, Azimi Danaaba told JOY NEWS she is traumatized by the incident and is demanding justice.

Speaking through an interpreter, Azimi said she and her late husband were on their farm with other neigbouring farmers when they heard dogs barking.

She suddenly heard shouts and people started running helter-skelter when the attackers opened fire on them.

Both she and the late husband tried to escape through different directions but the husband could not make it to safety.

Azimi said she personally know two of the five attackers and is prepared to help the police identify them.

She called on the state to help get justice for her late husband.

She fears the group might launch further attacks if the assailants are not apprehended.

Meanwhile, residents who fled from Kpemale to Badimsugru in March 2013 because of the conflict there, say they want an end to the violence to enable them live in peace.

A man who wants to remain anonymous tells JOY NEWS children have been asked to stay away from school for their safety.

He said even though the police assured them that their safety would be guaranteed, recent developments in the area suggest otherwise.

Although the police acknowledged the need to erect security post there, nothing has been done yet.
