The management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) says the Weija Treatment Plant will be shut for two days beginning this Friday, May 16, 2014.
Management of the water company in a release issued Thursday said, the shutdown is to enable engineers carryout routine maintenance works on the Weija Treatment plant.
"The planned shutdown which will last from 6 am on Friday to 6pm on Saturday is to allow GWCL to install a valve on the Weija transmission line at Heavy wood, Odorkor in Accra. Subsequently, the installation of the valve would enable GWCL to isolate and repair a faulty pipeline at Kokroko near Awoshie Junction".
This will interrupt the already deficient supply of water to consumers in western and central parts of Accra and management wants residents to store enough water for the period. The areas to be affected include: Kasoa, CP, Nyanyaano, Amanfro, Obom Road and Weija, Tetegu.
Others are: McCarthy Hill, SCC, Tuba, Brigade, Bortianor, Mallam, Gbawe, Odorkor, Awoshie and Sowutuom. The rest include: Israel, Achimota, Ofankor, Galilea, Abeka, Lapaz, Tesano, Darkuman, Bubuashie, Kaneshie, Awudome, Industrial Area, Mataheko and Abossey Okai.
