Consumers in the three regions of the north have been assured that the acute fuel shortage will ease in the next 24 hours.
CEO of the Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors Senyo Hosi gave this assurance following reports the nationwide problem is worse in the Upper East, Upper West and the Northern regions.
The Bulk Oil Distributors have so far been able to supply the southern sector with petrol after a week of fuel shortages made life unbearable especially in the capital Accra.
Queues have dwindled and yellow gallons that lined fuel stations to demonstrate the shortage have reduced.
But the situation has not improved in the three regions in the north. Upper West regional correspondent, Rafik Salam reported that motorists sleep at fuel stations in the hope of getting fuel.
While most motorists in the south rely on petrol, diesel is the more popular product up north.
Northern regional correspondent, Hashmin Mohammed also reports that because of the shortage, children are unable to go to school and many workers have been forced to skip work.
Speaking to Joy News, Senyo Hosi explained the shortage there was down to logistical problems.
He said it took a longer time to supply fuel to the North and promised that consumers can expect fuel by Friday.
The fuel shortage was created due to government's indebtedness to the Bulk Oil Distributors. They claim government owed them GHÈ» 1 billion. A figure, the Finance Ministry has disputed.
Government has said it has released $60 million to the distributors to ease the debt burden.
