Bahmed XI on Sunday defeated Emmanuel “Senegal” Armah XI 2-0 to win this year’s Ramadan Challenge Cup played at the Prison Park, Cantonment.
The competition, which was organised to climax the end of the 30 day Muslim Ramadan fasting period, saw the likes of former Hearts of Oak’s captain Nii Noi Dowuona featuring for Bahmed XI, whilst good old Hesse Odamtey also play for Senegal XI.
Bahmed XI took the lead through Fredrick Arthur in the 40th minute of the game when he lobbed the ball over their opponents’ goalkeeper.
Senegal XI struggled to come on level terms but all their efforts at goal were thwarted by the defensive net work of the Bahmed team.
As the game was advancing into the dying minutes, Arthur was on target again in the 60th minute to fire a terrific shot from an acute angle after he received a perfect pass from Yaw Adjei to complete the day for his side.
Bahmed XI took home cash prize of 500 GHC, three bags of rice, cooking oil, three cartons of soft drinks and a giant trophy for winning the ultimate.
Senegal XI were also presented with two bags of rice, a gallon of cooking oil, two cartons of soft drinks and 300 GHC for placing second, whilst Asare XI, which placed third took home 150 GHC, two bags of rice, a gallon of cooking oil, and soft drinks.
Outstanding players were also presented with sporting equipment and cash prizes.
The competition was sponsored by Bahmed Travel and Tours and was witnessed by Charles James Aryeh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council, Alhaji Sly Tetteh, President of Liberty Professional Football Club and Suwe Brown, Deputy Ambassador of the United States of America (USA) in Ghana.
