Ghana has been elected to serve on the Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for four (4) more years.
The election of Member States of the Council took place in Busan, South Korea Monday morning at the Plenipotentiary Conference of the ITU. Out of a total of 165 ballot papers issued to member states, Ghana polled 130 votes.
Speaking from Busan, the Head of Ghana’s delegation to the Plenipotentiary conference, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Communications said, “This is good news for Ghana as an emerging force in ICT and Telecommunications. The world continues to acknowledge Ghana’s achievements and progress over the years. Ours is to continue to exploit the opportunities available in this digital age with the ultimate aim of transforming the structure of the Ghanaian economy”. “I dedicate this victory to all Ghanaians”. He added.
The Plenipotentiary Conference will this afternoon have a special session chaired by the Secretary General of the ITU, Dr Hamadoun Toure to deliberate on the Ebola Virus Disease epidemic.
