Reverend Sampson Adu, a reverend minister who claims to be a member of the Church of Christ in Adjei Kojo, Ashaiman, but leads a prayer group called Triumphant Prayer Soldiers at Tema Community 11, has been arrested by the police CID for posing as a soldier.
Reverend Adu was arrested around 2:20am Wednesday at Anyinam onboard a VIP bus with registration number GT 4978-14, which was heading towards Kumasi.
He is now in the custody of the Criminal Investigations Department assisting with investigations.
Confirming his arrest to Daily Guide, COP Prosper Kwame Agblor, the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), said a police patrol team stopped the VIP bus the suspect was travelling on to search it as part of their routine checks of vehicles plying the road at dawn.
He said in the course of the search, Reverend Adu was spotted dressed in military uniform but without his cap and belt.
When he was asked to produce his appointment certificate or card, he could not produce it.
Upon further interrogations, Reverend Adu then confessed that he was not a military man but a man of God who received the uniform from a soldier friend he healed of stroke in 2012.
He added that the soldier he healed was on a peace keeping mission in Liberia and was yet to return. No weapon was however found on the suspect.
COP Agblor added that the police have observed that lots of criminals have been using military uniforms and police regalia for their nefarious activities, adding that the police would question any person in these uniforms without permit.
