The Super Eagles team for next Friday international friendly game for the inauguration of the ultra-modern Uyo Stadium, began training in the Akwa Ibom State capital, Tuesday morning but they could not have a feel of the new arena that has received accolades from all and sundry because the turf was still being marked.
HUMBLED: Super Eagles players listen to their coach before training ahead of the return clash with Sudan on Wednesday.
The team made up of entirely stars from the Nigerian league trained at the Uyo Township stadium under the watchful eyes of Assistant Coach, Dan The Bull Amokachi. He was assisted by Coach Valere Hyandonou and Goalies’ Trainer, Ike Shorunmu. The team had a feel of the much talked about Uyo Stadium later on Tuesday evening.
Head Coach Stephen Okechukwu Keshi was still away in Abuja on some personal issues and he’s scheduled to join the team soonest. The training proper, which featured all 24 players lasted for over two hours with some of the players having a first feel of the rigorous regime of training in the Super Eagles camp.
Ex-internationals James Etokebe and Patrick Udoh, came to give the team moral support during the morning session, with a sizeable number of football fans in Uyo also joining to watch their team train.
Etokebe, who is now the coach of Akwa United, said he was excited that the Nigerian national team will be playing two important games in his home state and thanked Governor Godswill Akpabio for the vision to build an edifice that is now attracting not only international football but attention across the world.
Udoh spoke in a similar vein and assured that fans in Uyo and environs will turn out in their numbers to support the national team in the two games they have in the city in the coming days.
