Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister for Education, on Tuesday urged practitioners in the education sector to adopt pragmatic measures, which would be in tune with current economic trends. He said the discovery of oil had changed the face of the economy, which required manpower and industrial technological-based approach in its management. Mr Tettey-Enyo was speaking during a courtesy call on him at the office by Mr Donald Teitelbaum, Ambassador of United States to Ghana. Mr Tettey-Enyo said it was the objective of the government to make education accessible to every child of school-going age. He said the education sector had been relying on the support of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for its curriculum development and quality assessment programmes as well as scholarships for needy children. Mr Teitelbaum said it was the provision of quality education that would lead to the creation of social mobility for any individual. "You can give money and house to somebody but it can be lost, but education is a life time venture with long term benefits. The U.S. would continue to support education in Ghana and the Peace Corps Volunteer and Fulbright teaching programmes have been beneficial to the education sector," he said. He said since Ghana had quality human resource, there was the need to work closely with the United States to determine levels of co-operation in future. Source: GNA
