Some National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the Jirapa District have welcomed decision by the Local Government Ministry to remove their District Chief Executive (DCE) from office.

A statement signed by Local Government Minister, Julius Debrah announced the removal of Vivian-Nelly Kunko.

Spokesperson for the youth, Ismail Sung said he heaved a sigh of relief when he heard the news and that the action is in the best interest of the district.

In October, some youth in the district demonstrated against Vivian-Nelly Kunko for abusing her office and allegedly selling contracts.

They accuse the DCE of taking bribes and making the party unpopular in the district.

According to them, they fear that the actions of Madam Kunko could cause the defeat of the NDC in the 2016 general elections.

He further accused the DCE of disregarding constituency executives of the party and being unresponsive to the concerns of grassroot supporters of the NDC in the area.

They vandalised her office and demanded that she be dismissed.

It is unknown if the actions of the youth have cost her job but she refused to comment publicly on her dismissal when contacted by Joy News, saying that she will respect the decision taken.

District Chief Executive for Sisala West, Moses Luri has also been stripped off his position.
