The Nkoranza Police have arrested a 26-year old man for beheading a 50-year old palm-wine tapper, for alleged ritual purposes.
Superintendent Alhaji Maama Arhin, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Crime Officer, confirmed the incident when contacted by the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani.
He stated that, the suspect, Prince Kwadwo Owusu, was yet to be brought to the Regional Police headquarters for further interrogation.
Superintendent Arhin explained that Owusu went to the farm of Kamara Mossi, the palm wine tapper at Ahyiayem near Nkoranza, and hit him with a piece of wood from behind.
He said, as a result, Mossi became unconscious, and Owusu then beheaded him with a knife, put the head in a sack and dumped the body in the bush.
Superintendent Arhin said, some people met Owusu coming from Mossi’s farm, with the sack full of blood, while there was a lot of blood stains in his shirt.
Superintendent Arhin stated that the people became suspicious and therefore enquired about what was in the sack, but Owusu's answer was that it was a bush meat.
He said the people after persisting, found the head of Kamara in the sack, and led suspect to the Nkoranza Police Station.
He said, upon interrogation, Owusu admitted the offence, and led the Police to the crime scene.
Meanwhile, the suspect is on remand at Nkoranza, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Nkoranza Saint Theresa’s Catholic Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
