Parliament has apologized to persons with disability who were not able to access the chamber of Parliament when they visited the house this week.
Some disabled persons were guests of Parliament this week to observe proceedings on the floor as MPs discussed issues about the disability Act.
It was however revealed that even though Parliament passed the law in 2006 it is yet to undertake necessary structural changes to make the facility disability friendly.
Deputy Director of Public Affairs in Parliament, Kate Addo told Joy News, the house is making efforts to address the problem.
The incident she noted “is unfortunate but to a large extent we’ve made provision to ensure that people who cannot move about very easily have other means of going to various destinations on the block.”
“We will like to apologize to those who couldn’t access the building and promise that next time we will take cognizance of the fact that if anything like that should happen, we would have prepared for it,” she added.
Kate Addo noted that it is unfortunate that the old block lacks access for people with physical disabilities.
