The businessman Alhaji Dawood arrested in connection with the Nayele Ametefe cocaine scandal has again vehemently pleaded his innocence to charges of abetment but will spend a few more days in custody.

The judge Francis Obiri set December 12, 2014 to allow him study arguments for bail put forward by counsel for the accused and counter-arguments of the prosecution when the case was called on Monday, December 8, 2014.

Prosecutors appealed to the judge to keep the suspect on remand until they finish with their investigation.

Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah who was in court reported Counsel for the defence, Addo Atuah as saying his client cannot in any way be connected to the drugs scandal, to which Nayele Ametefeh has pleaded guilty and would be sentenced by a London court.

He argued his client who is a friend to Nayele only facilitated her movement through the VVIP lounge at the Kotoka International Airport but could not have known she is a cocaine dealer.

In any case, he said, the cocaine, according to the facts of the case, was delivered to Nayele when she was on board the flight and not when she was using the VVIP Lounge.

Mr. Atuah is, therefore, asking the judge to grant his client bail pending the hearing on the substantive case.

Nayele breached Ghana's aviation security but was arrested in London carrying 12.5 kilograms of cocaine.

She has since pleaded guilty to the charge of exporting narcotic drugs to the UK and is praying for a quick sentence.

Five other suspects were later arrested in Accra in connection with the same offence.

Two ladies, Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Nuhu who were reported to be accomplices have also pleaded not guilty.

Afreh reported their lawyer, Ellis Owusu as saying that the two are breastfeeding their kids and need to be granted bail.

The lawyer further reported the BNI as saying that a gentleman delivered the cocaine to the main suspect- Nayele- on board the flight, to which his clients played no role.

They, therefore, cannot be connected to the crime, he argued.

Frank Davies, Lawyer for one of three state officials accused of granting the suspects access to the VIP lounge also argued his client is innocent and asked the court to grant him bail.

The judge adjourned the case to December 12, during which he would rule on the three related cases pending before him.

Meanwhile, a Ghanaian Times newspaper photo journalist was assaulted when he attempted to take shots of the two female suspects who appeared in court today.
