A security man stationed at the Madina branch of Melcom Ghana Ltd. met his untimely death when suspected robbers struck his head with an unidentified object.
The robbery operation took place at dawn Monday, Public Relations Officer of the Accra Police, ASP Afia Tenge told Joy News.
Unidentified persons are said to have broken into the supermarket and made away with valuable items including three air conditioners, two flat-screen TVs, and an unspecified number of mobile phones.
ASP Tenge said the police received an alert from some officials of the company that they suspected the shop had been broken into after its security alarm signalled a security breach.
The patrol team was quickly dispatched to the scene, she said, where Emmanuel Torsu, 53, was found dead in a pool of blood.
"They found out that the security man who was at post had been smashed in the head with some heavy object,” she said.
Police say they are investigating the ghastly death of the security man. Investigators are said to have been sent to the crime scene
Emmanuel’s body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
