The Narcotics Unit of the police in Kumasi has arrested two people for allegedly transporting 90 compressed slabs of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The suspects, 52-year-old woman Adwoa Serwaa and 21-year-old man, Mamudu Yussif, had four suitcases and school bags containing the banned substance which they were transporting from Takyiman in the Brong Ahafo Region to Takoradi in the Western Region.
Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor says the two were arrested in Kumasi while attempting to load the substance onto a Metro Mass Transit Bus in large quantities in Kumasi when they were arrested.
The head of Drug Law Enforcement Unit at the Ashanti Regional police command, ASP Charles Appiah said the woman hailed from Nsawkaw while the man is from Badu, both known to be areas in the region where the cannabis is cultivated.
“They arrived here [Kumasi] on the 6th of December and attempted to load it onto another bus from Kumasi to Takoradi and the management were vigilant enough to detect the content of their luggage and alerted the police. We quickly moved in and got them arrested."
They are being held in police custody and will soon be arraigned before the court.
