Staff of Global Solutions Limited, an IT-service company with presence in Accra, has gone to the aid of the Countryside Children’s Welfare Home -- a shelter for orphans in the Central Region -- by providing it with assorted household provisions to help in the home’s daily running.

Making the presentation, Olufemi Muraino -- the company’s Country and Regional Director -- said the move is just Global Solutions’ way of extending a helping hand to the disadvantaged within the community it operates.

According to Mr. Muraino, the donation of items worth over GH¢10,000 was also to show love to the residents so they don’t feel left out of the celebrations at yuletide.

Owing to several challenges the home managers have to cope with, Mr. Muraino said the company’s generous gesture will not be a one-off donation – rather, they “will see how we can assist the home regularly in our little way as an organisation.

“We have seen a lot of the needs that they have, and the home’s managers have also made a request. We will also appeal to some of our colleagues in the industry as well. Some of these children we are told want to pursue higher education; we will see how we can help realise such dreams,” he added.

He assured that as an IT-service company, Global Solutions will try as much as it can to help provide a set of desktop computers that residents of the house can use in enhancing their ICT skills.

The orphanage, located in the Awutu-Bawjiase, was founded in 1981 and provides shelter to more than 140 residents of various ages ranging from a few weeks old to about 24 years. Although the home is under supervision of the Social Welfare Department of the Gender and Children’s Ministry, inadequate government subvention makes it difficult for the home managers to keep up with the home’s daily needs.

The gesture by Global Solutions, Emma Boafo Yeboah - founder of the home explained, is very timely considering the challenges facing the facility due to an ever-increasing population.

Unlike other shelters for orphaned children, Countryside operates a school -- from nursery to JHS -- where its children are taken care of. According to the founder, the home is experimenting with becoming self-sustaining through its agriculture project wherein it cultivates some crops in addition to a pig farm.

Last Thursday’s event was graced by the company’s Group Managing Director/CEO Femi Adeoti, who is based in Nigeria.
