The Accra Regional Police Command is set to roll out a new strategy to reduce the spate of armed robbery in the capital as the year 2015 begins.
Nicknamed ‘operation no room for armed robbery in Accra’ police say they will clamp down on the activities of armed robbers in the capital.
Greater Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Christian Tetteh-Yohuno told Joy News the move is aimed at ensuring that Accra residents feel safe and secure to go about their daily activities.
"Police will be more robust and will ruthlessly clamp down on the activities of robbers in the region to create the necessary environment for the good people of Accra to go about their legitimate businesses successfully", he said.
He also revealed the police will reestablish the land guard unit to deal with the never ending land guard phenomenon and called on the general public to assist them in their duties for better results.
The number of armed robbery cases in 2014 was 125, down from 2013 figures of 255.
