Administrator of Keta Municipal Hospital Mr Serene Akpanya has called on residents of Keta to release their vacant rooms to staff of the hospital who are currently faced with accommodation problems.
He noted that the hospital, which was built in 1926 as a tertiary and referral health institution, has no accommodation for its staff and continues to lose its attraction to health professionals.
In several parts of the country, workers on transfer have to rely on the goodwill of locals for accommodation as official lodgings are often unavailable.
According to Mr Akpanya however, indigenes who have emigrated from the town refuse to release their vacant rooms to the needy workers.
This, according to the administrator, is crippling the work of the hospital as the few staff who have been successful in securing accommodation, obtained them at long distances from the hospital.
Mr Akpanya made the call at the hospital’s maiden open day celebration held at its premises in Keta. The theme for the celebration was "community participation; a key ingredient in quality health care delivery”.
The open day offered an opportunity to the town folks and staff of the hospital to deliver and receive feedback on performance of the hospital over the years.
Citations and awards were presented to deserving staff and retirees of the facility.
