Some royal clans of Appolonia in the Greater Accra Region are questioning the interest of the Regional Minister Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo in their chieftaincy issue.

The Kojo We, Sanshie/Sackie We and Bediako We are therefore calling on President Mahama to investigate the Regional Minister.

“We the elders of Appolonia are by this release appealing that the President must as a matter of urgency and for transparency sake, investigate the Regional Minister who is a recipe for chaos and confusion in Appolonia due to his alleged underhand dealings with a selfish few in the area,” the royal clans said in a statement.

The statement said: “It is very sad that the Greater Accra Minister who has been appointed by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to maintain peace and order and discharge his duties dispassionately to promote the better Ghana Agenda as espoused by the President is rather involved in creating confusion and division and breeding chaos in Appolonia.”

PRESS RELEASE FROM ELDERS OF THE RULLING CLANS OF APPOLONIA

KOJO WE, SANSHIE/SACKY WE AND BEDIAKO WE

MR PRESIDENT INVESTIGATE YOUR MINISTER JOSEPH NII LARYEA AFOTEY AGBO

29-12-14

Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the Monday 29th December, 2014 edition of the Daily Guide newspaper with the headline ‘Minister Fight Police Chief’.

In the said publication, the greater Accra Regional Minister, Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo made claims that the Dodowa Police Commander Superintendent Samuel Kwasi Ofori as creating fierce tension in the Appolonia Township.

We would like to state emphatically clear that the statement is maliciously false and untrue but rather it is He, the Regional Minister Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo who is encouraging one local businessman to create fierce tension and mayhem in the area.

It is sad that the Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo who is the head of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council, REGSEC whom we believe should be on top of issues is rather making ignoramus uninformed, unfortunate and unfounded allegations against a very hard working Police Officer.

We the Elders of the Appolonia Royal clans, namely KojoWe, Sanshie/Sackie We and Bediako We will like to set the records straight by this press release saying that, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo should rather be investigated by the President over his involvement in Chieftaincy and land matters within the Appolonia area.

What interest does Afotey-Agbo has for which he would [allegedly] send soldiers to bully people doing legitimate business on Appolonia lands on constant bases?

What is Afotey-Agbo’s interest in the Chiefteincy and Land matters of Appolonia?

What is Afotey-hiding under his sleeves for which he is championing the removal of Superintendent Kwasi Ofori who is discharging his duties dispassionately and diligently?

We the elders of Appolonia are by this release appealing that the President must as a matter of urgency and for transparency sake, investigate the Regional Minister who is a recipe for chaos and confusion in Appolonia due to his alleged underhand dealings with a selfish few in the area.

The Regional Minister Nii Laryea Afotey-Abgo further made erroneous claims that the police Chief is not on top of his job in his area of jurisdiction.

It baffles our understanding for a Minister who presides over such a huge region which houses the seat of government to make such unfortunate statements against a public security officer who is discharging his duties diligently.

The multi-million dollar question once again is what is the interest of Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo regarding Appolonia?

What exactly is the crime of Superintendent Kwasi Ofori.

The Minister’s further alleged that superintendent Kwasi Ofori has failed to recognize a gazetted chief. As it stands Appolonia has no legitimate chief in case Nii Laryea is not aware.

The so called gentleman parading himself as chief indeed managed to secure gazette under an interesting circumstance which is being contested in court and soon the court will decide.

How can one secure a gazette when a suit has been filed against you?

We ask, what are the processes involved in getting a gazette?

Besides we believe nobody is above the law, a so called gazetted chief or not.

It is very sad that the Greater Accra Minister who has been appointed by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to maintain peace and order and discharge his duties dispassionately to promote the better Ghana Agenda as espoused by the President is rather involved in creating confusion and division and breeding chaos in Appolonia.

We are by this publication stating that Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo by his action has interest in the lands of Appolonia and not the general welfare of the people.

We again appeal to His Excellency to intervene because the Minister has now resort to using soldiers who claim to be coming from the Teshie Camp to bully and intimidate the people of Applonia for no offence committed.

We are however appealing to his Excellency to investigate this minister of his to ensure that his hypocritical stands within the Region are brought to book to prevent any future unforeseen problems in the area.

The Regional Minister must be educated that Appolonia lands as much as they are stool lands have been duly registered in the name of the Royal Clans and under no circumstance can any chief allocate lands without the concurrence and consent of the royal clans.

We believe Afotey’s interest in Appolonia matters supersedes his commitment as a Regional Minister and must possibly be even removed if the President deems it appropriate as his conduct does not befits that of a Minister.

He is highly making the government unpopular by his actions.

SIGNED

NII TETTEY IDDRISU MANSRO

(REGENT OF APPOLONIA)
