District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akatsi North, has called on the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing to set up a body to monitor the performance of all contractors that execute government’s contracts across the country.
James Gunu said failure of contractors to deliver, is linked to the poor performance of the government and that most of these contractors don not have offices and have unreliable addresses. He insisted that something must be done about the situation.
The DCE made the call at the 17th anniversary celebration and sod cutting of the Teachers’ Quarters in Atsata-Bame in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region.
According to him, the classification of contractors into grades is not enough to keep contractors in check. He insisted that serious measures should be put in place to monitor them by setting up a bureau of contractors.
Touching on sanitation, James Gunu said the program has come to stay and has called on traditional leaders in his district to do away with funerals and other activities on the first Saturday of every month in order for the entire community to concentrate on cleaning their surroundings, beginning with the first Saturday in January.
