Medical facilities in the Western Region are facing threats of a massive electricity disconnection following their inability to pay bills owed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Regional Health Director, Kojo Tinkorang, says the situation has become a serious burden on hospitals and other health centres in the region due to unavailable funds to clear the debts.
Dr. Tinkorang revealed these during a meeting with Deputy Health Minister, Victor Bampoe.
He said the Tarkwa hospital, for instance, owes the ECG as much as GH¢750,000.
Dr Tinkorang wants government to intervene in the matter.
According to him there is no way the facilities will be able to pay the debts even if their assets are sold.
The Deputy Minister however said although the situation predates his administration he will consult the Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Mensah on the way forward.
"We will discuss it with the membership of the Ministry of Health to see how best we can deal with it", he said
