Lawyer for embattled former HIV/AIDS ambassador says his client will not comply with police directive to undertake an HIV-test unless ordered by a competent court.
Kojo Koranteng says the police have no capacity to independently ask Joyce Dzidzor Mensah to go for an HIV test.
He insists: "it is only the court that can order the test. Nobody else can order for the test. The police can't".
His comments are in reaction to an attempt by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to conduct a test on Ms Mensah following her confession that she has never tested positive for the virus.
Ms Mensah had been working with the Ghana Aids Commission for more than five years as an ambassador, to fight AIDS stigmatisation.
Head of Public Relations at the CID ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa said his outfit invited the former AIDS ambassador following a complaint by the Ghana AIDS Commission.
Ms. Mensah told Joy News Thursday she was interrogated by CID on her public revelations that she has no AIDS.
Joyce Dzidzor Mensah in December 2014 shocked the nation by declaring that contrary to popular belief, she is not HIV positive.
She said she has been lying for the past five years about her HIV status despite campaigning against HIV/AIDS stigmatisation, and has become a popular voice for persons living with AIDS.
The Ghana AIDS Commission however insists Ms Mensah tested HIV positive in 2007.
Ms Mensah has already appeared before AIDS Commission Board where she was probed about details of her sudden turnaround.
