Police in the Eastern Region have arrested one more person in connection with the shooting of a police officer at Weija here in Accra.
The suspect, Isaac Boadi was among a gang of suspected robbers who exchanged fire with the police resulting in the death of the officer.
He was picked up at his hideout at the remote village of Kwashi near Asamankese last night.
Eastern Regional Police Commander ACP James Azuma Abass tells Joy News that Isaac Boadi will soon be moved to Accra.
“Since it happened outside our jurisdiction we have invited the Accra police command to come and take him to the Police Hospital while they continue with investigations.”
He said the Akim Oda police was informed that a suspect with gun wounds in his genitals was receiving treatment at a herbal centre at the village.
He [the suspect] together with his supposed friends were also stealing and selling cocoa to the Produce Buying Company to defray debts accrued at the herbal centre.
The police officer, Charles Akatta, was shot and killed by suspected armed robbers at Weija in Accra.
Constable Akatta who was in his late 30’s sustained gunshot wounds during a shootout with the gang of robbers.
The incident occurred at around 12am Wednesday morning near the West Hills Mall.
He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly thereafter. His body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue.
