Police in the Eastern Region have arrested 14 individuals suspected of involvement in riots that left one person dead while four others sustained various degrees of injury.
Sunday’s riots also saw the Chief’s palace set ablaze during the celebration of the Akwasidae festival by angry youth who also pelted stones at some individuals amidst the confusion.
The deceased and the injured persons are part of irate youth who are refusing to recognise the legitimacy of chief of the town.
Tension has been brewing following clashes between supporters of the chief and the queen mother of the area.

The youth claim Okowtwaresuo Kantamanto Owarae Agyekum has been destooled as the chief of the town and so cannot hold himself out as such.
Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP James Abass-Abaah told Joy News they are doing their best to manage the situation.
“We’ve deployed enough men now…and the situation has been brought under control,” the Deputy Commander added.
