Surrogate mother pregnant with quadruplets is expected to receive legal assistance to renegotiate her surrogacy contract with Mount Carmel Fertility Center following Joy News’ exposé on the deplorable conditions she was living in.
Vanga Ariane Denise was compelled to sleep in a toilet of an uncompleted building because of unfulfilled promises from the hospital.
Following reports of her situation, the Legal Assistance Network Ghana is offering legal aid to the surrogate mother as she signs a contract with the fertility center.
Its Director of Legal Assistance, Irene Aborchie-Nyahe says “the assistance we can give her is to take a look at the legal documents that they said she should sign and make sure that her rights are protected.”
According to her, her outfit wants to ensure that the hospital does not forgo its duties because “my suspicion is that now that the issue is out there the hospital will want to protect itself so they have quickly asked her to come and sign some document. So we will look at the contents of the paper they are asking her to come and sign and then advise her accordingly.”
The Legal Assistance Network Ghana will help Denise draft a proper agreement and try to locate the intended parents of the children even before they are born.
The surrogate mother however says the hospital has agreed to offer her GHȻ30,000 for the four babies she is carrying, a monthly stipend of GHȻ800 and to provide a place for her to sleep till she delivers.
