The Founder and President of the Recnowa Initiative, Kwaku Kyei has won the Arab Gulf Program World Prize 2013 for human development projects in the individual category focusing on street children.
The prize recognised Kwaku Kyei’s entrepreneurial efforts in sponsoring and supporting street youth to pursue sustainable livelihood job skills in recycling plastic and other material waste, into useful products for both the local and international markets.
Kwaku received the AGFUND Award (fourth Category prize winner) at the just ended Awards held at Rabat Convention Centre in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Sophia of Spain, His Royal Highness Prince Talal Bin Abdul Asiz Al-Saud with Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus in attendance.
The Prize, conferred annually by the Arab Gulf Program for United Nations Development Organizations, is one of the most prestigious of its kind given to groups working globally to ease human suffering.
"I am very honored to be recognized by HRH Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud and an esteemed organization like AGFUND. I do not take the credit for myself alone, but the entire team that I am working with without whose contribution this will not have been possible,” said Kwaku Kyei, President and Founder of the Recnowa Initiative
The AGFUND International Prize is an innovative and creative means of developmental assistance and financing projects tools. It is the first initiative ever to motivate developmental contributions, pinpoint successful models and disseminate creative ideas to support excellent efforts in the field of development. By doing so, it aims at introducing a breakthrough in developmental work based on scientific grounds.
The Prize Committee membership comprises a number of renowned international figures representing the world regions, namely: Mrs. Mercedes Menafra de Batlle, Former First Lady of Uruguay, and President of Honor of the All for Uruguay NGO, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ali, President of the Islamic Development Bank Group, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Founder of Grameen Bank, Chairman of Yunus Social Business and Noble Peace Prize Winner 2006 and Dr. Y. S. Abdulai, former Director-General of the OPEC Fund for International Development.
