Govt moves to tighten security of websites after Turkish Group hack

Government says it has begun an upgrade of protective softwares for its websites to stop hackers from taking them down in future.

Director General of National Information Technology Agency (NITA), administrator of government websites, William Tevi, said new protocols have been instituted to strengthen IT security.

"We will have a team to monitor constantly to make sure that we don't have any vulnerable application software on our system", said Mr Tevi.

He said applications would be installed on all data centres and backup systems to detect intrusion quickly.

Eleven government websites hosted by NITA were brought down by a Turkish Hacking Group last week.

NITA says investigations have revealed some of the websites did not have up to date softwares.

IT Expert with Ghana Police's E–Crime Bureau Albert Antwi-Boasiko told Joy News the state must employ an expert who can easily read through the system before the hackers strike.
