The Akatsi North District in the Volta Region has inaugurated a sanitation committee to improve cleanliness in the district, ahead of the National Sanitation Day tomorrow.
Members of the committee, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE) James Gunu have vowed to ensure that the Ministry of Local Government-led plan to rid the country of filth is achieved in the area.
According to Mr Gunu, the assembly will make sure the National Sanitation Day, which falls on the first Saturday of every month is dedicated solely for cleaning activities.
He said efforts are being made to ban funerals or other such occasions during National Sanitation Days in the district.
The MP for the area Peter Notsu Kotor who inaugurated the committee tasked the assembly to make sure that residents clean their communities, urging that organisers of funerals or similar events on the first Saturday of every month should sanctioned.

Volta regional minister Helen Adjoa Ntoso, who was also at the inauguration of the committee, encouraged the members to deliver on their mandate.
