Two gangsters suspected to be members of a syndicate which has been terrorizing residents, especially, students within the KNUST community in Kumasi have been arrested.
They are 22-year-old Yussif Musah, also known as Bawa, and his teenage namesake and accomplice, Yussif Adams also known as Boz, who is 18.
The two were picked up at Tech Junction while a third person escaped soon after robbing a student at gunpoint at about 10 .30 p.m. on Monday.
Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah said the arrest was conducted by members of a neighbourhood watchdog committee.
According to him, the gangsters had succeeded in robbing a student of her bag which contained a laptop and other accessories but were later signaled to stop by some members of a watchdog committee.
One of the gangsters took to his heels and the committee members quickly arrested the other two and handed them over to the police.
Yussif Musah is said to be a driver's mate while Adams is a cobbler.
KNUST District Police Commander DSP Emmanuel Adu Boahen said the suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue.
He said efforts are being made to hunt the third suspect.
He said the information they have picked up indicates that the suspects are not first-time offenders.
He challenged the students especially to get acquainted with some basic security tips
DSP Boahene applauded the great contribution by the members of the watchdog committee who are assisting the police to arrest these miscreants.
