A 19-year-old cattle herdsman is in the grips of the Koforidua divisional police command for possessing an AK-47 rifle with 37 rounds of live ammunition.
Osman Bello was arrested with the weapon by a police patrol team at Abuorso, a village near Begoro.
A police statement issued by Deputy Regional Police PRO said on Tuesday, February 2, at about 5 pm a police patrol team from Begoro arrested the suspect who is of Fulani descent upon intelligence at the village.
The statement from Sergeant Francis Gomado disclosed that a search conducted on the suspect uncovered one AK-47 assault rifle with 37 rounds of live ammunition one long club, ¢9.00 cash, and a talisman.
The police said when the suspect was interrogated he alleged that his uncle, one Mallam Landan gave him the rifle.
The suspect has since been detained and exhibits retained to assist the police look into the case.
