The Education Minister has defended GETFund’s disbursement of scholarships to sitting MPs, saying the brouhaha over it was unnecessary.
Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh says as MPs, they cannot exclude themselves from capacity building initiatives.
He told Parliament Friday that, although his name is been out there as a beneficiary of GETFund, he will still support MPs to benefit from its use to build their capacity.
This was after House approved the GETFund disbursement formula for 2020.
Some MPs suggested on the Floor that scholarship funds should be moved from GETFund to the Scholarship Secretariat.
But Dr Opoku Prempeh cautioned against that urging his colleagues to think about Parliament first.
He says if the funds are administered by the Scholarship Secretariat, it would be out of the hands of Parliamentarians.
