Two Baptists charity organisations have presented solar-powered boreholes to the Kampong and Bongnayili communities in the Central Gonja district of the Savannah Region and Kumbungu District in the Northern Region.
The facilities valued at about ¢116,200 was jointly provided by the Baptist Child Development Programme (BCDP) and Tahima Baptist Child Development Programme (TBCDP) to the communities with funding support from the Christian Children Fund of Canada (CCF).
The support is targeted at improving the overall health needs of beneficiaries, especially in the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The communities before the intervention walked long distances to draw water from existing hand pump bore-holes.
The mechanisation reduced the distance by about 400 meters closer to the communities, and piped to two different points with four sprouts and connected to a 10,000-litre storage tank for each of the two communities.
Deacon Paul Napari, the Project leader of BCDP, said the mechanisation in Kampong and Bongnayili communities cost ¢27, 482 and¢88, 718.47 respectively.
He encouraged the community members to utilize the facility as a tool to fight the pandemic by regularly washing their hands under running water and drinking enough water.
He further urged them to observe all protocols given by the Ghana Health Service to avoid contracting and spreading the virus.
Chiefs and representatives of the two communities expressed appreciation to BCDP and CCF for the intervention and pledged to maintain the facility regularly to extend the lifespan of the facilities.
