The Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Alberta Britwum Nyarko, has allayed fears that the two persons who tested positive for Covid-19 in the Akuapem North Municipality could have infected more people in the area.
Her comment follows the confirmation of two women, aged 59 and 45, who returned to the country from London and Holland on March 20 and March 19, respectively, as carriers of the virus.
While assuring that the victims may not have had contacts with many more people since they were traced and quarantined upon their arrival, the health director said health care officials in the region have been able to trace and taken the samples of about eight people.
She said her outfit is now awaiting their results from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research in Accra.
The Eastern Region has so far recorded 51 positive cases, making it the region with the third-highest number of Covid-19 positive cases after Greater Accra and the Ashanti region.
