The Deputy Health Minister has revealed that government has initiated processes to set up a Logistic Management Committee to monitor the distribution of Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) to health facilities.
Dr Benard Okoe Boye's comment comes after the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) complained of lack of protective suites.
The Association has added that some of its members have to either work without them or buy their own equipment.
This, according to the GMA, has adversely affected the works of frontline workers.
To rectify this, Dr Okoe Boye on Joy News’ AM Show Wednesday said the distribution will be decentralised through the committee which will soon be set up.
“PPEs are disposable, no matter the stock level that we provide, if we don’t monitor the levels closely and restock timely there will be inadequate level after some time.
“And so as a government we are committed to keeping the supply chain going [and that is through this monitoring committee that we will set up] at the district level,” he noted.
The Ledzokuku Krowor MP also indicated that the committee will not only serve as distributors but will closely monitor the protective suites government provides to identify any mismanagement of the goods.
“There are some claims that when you go into them deserves critical attention, but setting up this committee in the district levels will help us to monitor.
“Monitoring will tell you whether it is a matter of non-availability, a matter of distribution, a matter of hoarding, a matter of inefficient logistical management among others.”
