The Oti Landfill Site in Kumasi is to be decommissioned and transformed into a modern waste treatment plant.
When completed, the foul and repugnant smell and attendant health hazards residents in the enclave are exposed to, would end.
Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, undertook an inspection tour of the site, as it is decommissioned and re-engineered.
The project will involve site fencing, re-shaping, and access road rehabilitation, among others.
The Minister told to journalists government had contracted waste management giant, Zoomlion, through EAP Consult to execute the project.
The two indigenous companies will turn the landfill into a multi-purpose waste treatment facility.
The Project is expected to be completed in 10 months.
